PIP 4-weekly payment

DWP pays PIP every 4 weeks rather than monthly. This is historical: the payment cycle aligns with the old DLA schedule and avoids the variable month-length problem. Your first payment lands within five weeks of the decision letter.

How payments land in a calendar month

Because 4-week cycles do not align with calendar months, some months you receive one payment, some months you receive two. Over a full year you receive 13 payments. To estimate a monthly equivalent, multiply your weekly rate by 4.345 (see the monthly equivalent page).

Bank holidays

If your payment date falls on a UK bank holiday, DWP pays the working day before. The total per cycle is unchanged. Scottish bank holidays for ADP claimants follow the same rule.

First payment after a decision

DWP usually pays the first PIP within five weeks of the decision letter. If the decision is delayed past three months, you can request a payment-on-account; this is at the assessor's discretion and not a statutory right.
