PIP rates FAQ
Twenty answers to the questions claimants ask most frequently in 2026. Every numeric answer references the 2026/27 statutory rates set by DWP.
- How much is PIP per week in 2026/27?
- Daily Living standard £73.90, enhanced £110.40. Mobility standard £29.20, enhanced £77.05. Maximum (enhanced on both) is £187.45 per week.
- How much is PIP every 4 weeks?
- DWP pays every 4 weeks. The 4-weekly amounts: Daily Living standard £295.60, enhanced £441.60; Mobility standard £116.80, enhanced £308.20.
- How much is PIP per month?
- Multiply the weekly rate by 4.345 (the ONS calendar-month factor). Enhanced both components is £814.47 per month equivalent.
- How much is PIP per year?
- The maximum annual PIP (enhanced on both components) is £9,747.40. Standard on both is £5,361.20.
- What are the points thresholds?
- Standard rate triggers at 8 points on a component. Enhanced rate triggers at 12 points. The two components are scored independently.
- Is the 4-point rule in force?
- No. The 4-point rule was removed from the Bill on 1 July 2025 after a Labour rebellion. It is not in the enacted Universal Credit and PIP Act 2025.
- Is PIP being scrapped or means-tested?
- No. PIP is non-means-tested and remains in place. The Timms Review is consulting on changes; no recommendations have been enacted.
- Is PIP taxable?
- No. PIP is on the HMRC list of tax-free state benefits. It does not affect your personal allowance.
- Does PIP affect Universal Credit?
- PIP itself is fully disregarded as income for UC. Receiving PIP often unlocks UC disability premiums and the Carer Element if a carer claims Carer's Allowance for you.
- How long does a PIP decision take?
- Typical DWP clearance time in 2026 is about 16 weeks from claim to decision. Mandatory reconsideration and tribunal cases can extend much longer.
- Does PIP back-pay accrue from claim date?
- Yes. PIP back-pay accrues from the date you claimed (or in some circumstances from the assessment-completion date) and is paid as a single lump sum after a successful decision.
- Does enhanced Mobility unlock Motability?
- Yes. Enhanced Mobility (12 or more points) with at least 12 months remaining on the award is the eligibility criterion for the Motability Scheme.
- Does PIP qualify me for a Blue Badge?
- Enhanced Mobility (Moving Around 8+ points) gives automatic Blue Badge eligibility. Enhanced Planning a Journey at 10 points for overwhelming psychological distress also qualifies.
- Does PIP unlock Carer's Allowance?
- Either tier of Daily Living unlocks Carer's Allowance for someone providing 35+ hours of care a week, subject to the carer's earnings limit.
- Is PIP different in Scotland?
- Scotland uses Adult Disability Payment (ADP) with identical 2026/27 weekly rates. The assessment process and award durations differ; awards are typically longer in Scotland.
- When was the latest PIP uprating?
- PIP rates were uprated by 1.7% from 7 April 2026, based on September 2024 CPI. The Social Security Benefits Up-rating Order 2026 sets the figures.
- Can I appeal a PIP decision?
- Yes. The route is mandatory reconsideration first (within 1 month of the decision), then appeal to the First-tier Tribunal. Many tribunal appeals succeed; expert advice from Citizens Advice or a welfare-rights service is strongly recommended.
- What is the 20-metre rule?
- On Mobility Activity 2 (Moving Around), being able to walk more than 1 metre but no more than 20 metres (descriptor e) scores 12 points, triggering enhanced Mobility. The 20m line has been disputed by disability charities since 2013.
- How is the PIP standard rate calculated?
- The PIP standard rate is a statutory weekly amount set by DWP. For 2026/27 it is £73.90 for Daily Living and £29.20 for Mobility.
- Does the PIP enhanced rate change with my condition?
- No. The enhanced rate is a flat weekly amount: £110.40 for Daily Living and £77.05 for Mobility. The amount does not vary by condition or score above 12.
