PIP Mobility rate 2026/27

The Mobility component has two activities: planning and following a journey, and moving around (the 20-metre rule). Enhanced Mobility is what unlocks Motability and the automatic Blue Badge route.

The 20-metre rule

If you can stand and then move more than 1 metre but no more than 20 metres, descriptor e of Moving Around applies and scores 12 points: enhanced Mobility. The rule is contested by disability charities and welfare-rights groups because it draws an arbitrary line at 20 metres.

The reliability test applies. If you can sometimes walk 30 metres but cannot do so safely or repeatedly more than half the time, the lower distance descriptor applies.

The two Mobility activities

  1. Mobility Activity 1: Planning and following journeys
  2. Mobility Activity 2: Moving around
