Carer's Allowance from PIP
A carer who provides at least 35 hours of care a week to someone on either tier of PIP Daily Living can claim Carer's Allowance. The 2026/27 weekly rate is £83.30, subject to the carer's earnings limit.
What triggers Carer's Allowance
- The cared-for person is on PIP Daily Living, either standard or enhanced.
- The carer provides at least 35 hours of care a week.
- The carer is aged 16 or over.
- The carer is not in full-time education (more than 21 hours of study a week).
- The carer's net earnings are within the weekly cap (uprated each April).
2026/27 figures
Weekly Carer's Allowance: £83.30. Annual: £4,331.60.
Mobility component does not trigger Carer's Allowance
Enhanced Mobility alone does not unlock Carer's Allowance. It is the Daily Living component (either tier) that triggers passporting. If you score zero on Daily Living and 12 on Mobility, your carer cannot claim Carer's Allowance from your award.
How to claim
The carer applies separately via gov.uk/carers-allowance. PIP claim details (the claimant's National Insurance number, PIP award letter and date) are needed at the application stage.
Interaction with other benefits
Carer's Allowance is treated as taxable income (unlike PIP). It overlaps with State Pension: the carer cannot receive both at once, but holding a notional underlying entitlement still unlocks the Carer Premium on Pension Credit.
