Motability Scheme from PIP

The Motability Scheme lets you use your enhanced PIP Mobility allowance to lease a car, scooter or powered wheelchair from a panel of manufacturers. You need enhanced Mobility (12 or more points) with at least 12 months remaining on your award.

Eligibility

How the allowance is used

Motability collects your enhanced Mobility allowance (£308.20 every 4 weeks; £4,006.60 per year) directly from DWP. Cars on the standard list use the allowance only; some pricier or adapted vehicles require an advance payment.

What the lease includes

If your award is downgraded at review

If your enhanced Mobility is reduced to standard at a review, Motability ends the lease with a transition period (eight weeks for cars, longer for adapted vehicles). A "Transitional Support Package" payment of up to several thousand pounds is available to help you replace the vehicle.

Scotland (ADP) note

Adult Disability Payment (Scotland) enhanced Mobility also qualifies for Motability. Case transfer from DWP PIP to ADP does not interrupt an existing Motability lease.
